Houses in Multiple Occupation is very complex in the way legislation has detailed the definition, as there are many variants of what amounts to an HMO.

However, there are specific areas that landlords need to focus on when it comes to running an HMO.

Under the Housing Act 2004, the definition was made clear and therefore other sub pieces of legislation have come about creating  Standards for Accommodation used as HMO’s

The main Regulation come in the form of:   Housing Health Safety Rating System or HHSRS

This sets out 29 different hazards that need to be looked at for the safe environment of tenants occupying rental property in the Private Sector.
